Steps to Measuring your Windows
Use a Metal Tape Measure with 1/8” marks.
Choose whether you want your shade to be mounted Inside or Outside the window frame.
Measure the horizontal width of the window first, then measure the vertical height.
Measure to the nearest 1/8”. For inside mount shades, round down to the nearest 1/8”. For outside mount shades, round up to the nearest 1/8”. Don’t take any deductions. Our factory will make the necessary.
deductions based on the type of shade you order.
Inside Mount or Outside Mount?
Inside Mount
Inside mount shades keep your window trim visible, but leave a light gap of 1/2”-3/4” on both sides of the shade. Your shade will also need at least 1” of depth to keep the shade inside the top of the window frame. Inside mount shades are perfect for rooms that need privacy, but still need to be light and bright
1. Measure the width inside the window frame in three places: top, middle and bottom. If widths in the window vary, use the smallest width.
2. Measure the height inside the window opening in three places: left, center and right. If heights in the window vary, order the longest height.
Outside Mount
Outside mount shades cover your window frames, offering superior light blockage and are necessary for windows with casements or other hardware that would normally block the shade from moving up and down. Outside mount shades are perfect for rooms that need protection from the sun or specialty windows.
1. Choose where you want the shade to extend to outside your window frame.
2. Measure the desired width and height. To minimize light gaps, the shade should overlap the window opening at least 2” on each side and at the bottom.
3. When measuring the height, be sure to allow 3”-4” for mounting the brackets/headrail above the window opening.
